How much eSIM data
do you actually need?

Build a practical data estimate from the way you travel. This is a planning tool—not a carrier promise—so we add a safety buffer and then point you toward a sensible fixed-data tier.

Why the estimate moves

Video changes everything.
Maps usually do not.

The biggest data swings usually come from video, autoplay-heavy social feeds, cloud uploads and tethering—not from checking a map or sending messages.

Maps + messagingLow

Usually manageable on smaller plans for short trips.

Social feedsMedium

Image and short-video feeds can add up quickly across a week.

Streaming videoHigh

Video quality can turn a modest trip into a 10GB+ trip very quickly.

Hotspot / laptopVery high

Desktop updates, cloud sync and video calls can consume data unexpectedly.

How much travel eSIM data should you buy?

There is no universal number because a 7-day trip built around maps and WhatsApp is completely different from a 7-day work trip with Zoom calls and laptop tethering. A useful way to choose is to estimate your normal mobile behavior, add a safety buffer, and then buy the nearest fixed-data tier above that estimate.

For light travelers, 1–3GB may be enough for a short trip. Around 5GB is a practical middle ground for many travelers using maps, messaging, browsing and moderate social media. 10GB or more becomes more relevant when the trip is longer, social/video use is frequent, or hotspot use matters.

Planning rule: if running out of data would be a real problem, buy one tier above the calculator result rather than trying to hit the estimate exactly.

Why we recommend fixed-data tiers

A fixed-data plan makes it easier to understand what you are buying. Our destination pages separate fixed-data packages from daily/FUP products so a “10GB” recommendation does not accidentally become a very different type of plan.
